Who operates Readplace

Readplace is a read-it-later web application operated by Proficient Pty Ltd in Australia; where this policy says what Readplace does, "Readplace" means that operator. The website is readplace.com.

What data Readplace collects

• Account information: your email address, used for authentication, account recovery, and the emails Readplace sends you about your account and your saved articles.
• Saved articles: URLs, titles, and metadata of articles you save to your reading list.
• Usage data: basic server logs (IP address, request timestamps) necessary to operate and secure the service.
• Attribution data: an anonymous visitor id, and the campaign or referrer you first arrived from, joined to a hashed form of your email when you sign up so Readplace can tell which visits led to accounts.

What Readplace does not collect

• Readplace does not use third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
• Readplace does not sell or rent your personal data, and shares it only with the providers that run the service: AWS (hosting), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), and DeepSeek (article text, to clean it up and write the summary).
• The operator of Readplace does not read the content of the articles you save — article text is sent to DeepSeek to pick and clean up the readable text and to write the summary and excerpt on your cards.

How your data is used

Readplace uses your data solely to provide the Readplace service: authenticating your account, storing your reading list, delivering the web application to your browser, and emailing you about your account and when an article you were waiting on is ready.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored on AWS infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific (Sydney) region. Readplace uses industry-standard security practices to protect your data.

Connected Gmail accounts

If you connect Gmail, Readplace requests permission to manage forwarding filters and read message metadata. To help you choose senders, it reads From headers and message labels across your mailbox history, excluding Spam, Trash, drafts, and messages that are only in Sent. This discovery does not request message bodies or attachments.

Readplace stores the discovered sender names and email addresses, your chosen forwarding mappings, and the authorization token needed to keep the connection working. Messages you choose to forward to a Readplace inbox are received and stored separately so you can read them in Readplace. Disconnecting Gmail asks Google to remove the Readplace filter, revokes Readplace's access to your account and deletes the stored credentials and discovered sender list. Deleting your account does the same. Readplace cannot remove the forwarding address you added in Gmail, so remove it yourself under Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

Connected AI assistants

You can connect an AI assistant — Claude, ChatGPT, or another client that speaks the Model Context Protocol — to Readplace. Connecting runs a standard OAuth sign-in in which you approve the connection; the assistant never receives your Readplace password, only a token that acts on your behalf.

A connected assistant can save links to your readlist, list what you have saved, read a saved article's details, reader text and summary, see which of your other saves relate to it, and mark an article read or unread. It cannot delete anything, and it cannot reach any other account's data. Whatever you type into the assistant is handled by whoever operates that assistant, under their privacy policy rather than this one.

For each call from a connected assistant, Readplace records which of the actions above the assistant asked for, whether that action succeeded, which assistant asked, and — when it saves a link — the website the link points to. Readplace does not record what you typed to the assistant, the wording of its request, or the full address of a saved link. It uses this only to see which assistants work and where they fail, and keeps it for the same period as the server logs below.

Disconnect from the assistant's own settings, which revokes its Readplace token. Deleting your Readplace account from your Account page revokes every connected assistant at once.

Data retention and export

Readplace keeps your account and saved articles until you delete them or close your account. Server logs are kept for 30 days, a login session ends after 180 days without a visit, and export downloads are deleted 7 days after you generate them. Usage events, which carry a visitor id and a hashed email rather than your address, are kept indefinitely.

You can export a list of your saved articles at any time from the Export page.

Cookies

Readplace uses first-party cookies only — one to keep you logged in (180 days, renewed as you use the site), an anonymous id to measure how visitors use the site (1 year), a record of the campaign or referrer you arrived from (30 days), and functional cookies for sign-in state, pending saves, imports, extension detection, and banners you have dismissed. No advertising, third-party, or cross-site tracking cookies.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data at any time. You can export your data from the Export page and permanently delete your account — along with your saved list and your reading history — from your Account page. Changes to this policy

Readplace may update this policy from time to time and will notify registered users of material changes via email.
