Who I am
Readplace is a read-it-later web application operated by Proficient Pty Ltd in Australia. The website is readplace.com.
What data I collect
- Account information: your email address, used for authentication, account recovery, and the emails I send you about your account and your saved articles.
- Saved articles: URLs, titles, and metadata of articles you save to your reading list.
- Usage data: basic server logs (IP address, request timestamps) necessary to operate and secure the service.
- Attribution data: an anonymous visitor id, and the campaign or referrer you first arrived from, joined to a hashed form of your email when you sign up so I can tell which visits led to accounts.
What I do not collect
- I do not use third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
- I do not sell or rent your personal data, and I share it only with the providers that run Readplace: AWS (hosting), Stripe (payments), and Resend (email).
- I do not read the content of the articles you save — article text is sent to DeepSeek to pick and clean up the readable text and to write the summary and excerpt on your cards.
How I use your data
I use your data solely to provide the Readplace service: authenticating your account, storing your reading list, delivering the web application to your browser, and emailing you about your account and when an article you were waiting on is ready.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on AWS infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific (Sydney) region. I use industry-standard security practices to protect your data.
Data retention and export
I keep your account and saved articles until you delete them or close your account. Server logs are kept for 30 days, login sessions expire after 7 days, and export downloads are deleted 7 days after you generate them. Usage events, which carry a visitor id and a hashed email rather than your address, are kept indefinitely.
You can export all your data at any time from the Export page.
Cookies
Readplace uses first-party cookies only — one to keep you logged in (7 days), an anonymous id to measure how visitors use the site (1 year), a record of the campaign or referrer you arrived from (30 days), and functional cookies for sign-in state, pending saves, imports, extension detection, and banners you have dismissed. No advertising, third-party, or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data at any time. You can export your data from the Export page and permanently delete your account — along with your saved list and your reading history — from your Account page. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. I will notify registered users of material changes via email.
